Since 2004, this annual NYC event has raised funds for critical neurosurgery research — including brain tumor research and innovative treatments for neurological disease. Hosted by Columbia University Department of Neurological Surgery.

  • Eligible: attendings, faculty, fellows, residents, interns with active neurosurgery appointments.
  • Matched incoming residents are allowed (updated for 2026).
  • 10 players on the field; no designated hitter. If a team cannot field 10 players, they must forfeit.
  • Slow-pitch softball format.
  • No stealing, sliding, bunting, or leading.
  • Count starts 1-1. Round-robin games: 3 innings, 5 runs per inning max.
  • Open substitutions allowed throughout the game.
  • Foul ball with 2 strikes is an automatic out.
  • Courtesy runners allowed.
  • World Cup scoring — 3 pts win / 1 pt tie / 0 pts loss.
  • Tiebreakers: head-to-head, then runs allowed.
  • Top 2 teams per division advance; next seed fills if a team can't play.
  • One umpire per field; two for the championship game.
  • Teams play under their own liability and disability insurance.
  • No alcohol in Central Park.
  • All teams clean up their respective areas.
  • Violations result in immediate disqualification.
